COMMUNITY ADVISORY COUNCILPLANS NEXT MEETING FOR

GREATER FRENCHTOWN AND SOUTHSIDE AREA RESIDENTS

--Council meets Saturday, August 22, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.,

Richardson-Lewis Building, 872 W. Orange Avenue--

Tallahassee–Representatives of the residents of the Greater Frenchtown and the South Side areas--the Community Advisory Council--will gather to continue their dialogue about identifying concerns that affect the health and well-being of the community.  Residents of both neighborhoods are invited to attend and volunteer to serve as leaders.  Several spaces are open on the advisory council.

The meeting will be on the South Side at the Health Department’s Richardson-Lewis Building, 872 West Orange Avenue.

“Discussions during the last meeting ranged from philosophical to hands-on topics, with residents discussing what their roles would be in practice,” said Dr. Cynthia Seaborn, Health Committee Chair, Tallahassee Branch of the NAACP. “As one Community Advisory Council member said, “We want to knock on doors….We need to mobilize and have a presence.”

“Members of the sponsoring groups listened and responded with suggestions and clarifications of our roles,” said Claudia Blackburn, MPH, RN, Health Officer for DOH-Leon.  “We want to improve the quality of life in both these neighborhoods so community members can do the things they want to do. Healthcare is an important part of the discussion, as are issues like safety and satisfaction with one’s surroundings – in other words, the neighborhood as a whole system.”

Call to Register by Thursday, August 20:  850-606-8153.
