More COVID-19 Testing Options in Leon County 

COVID-19 testing capacities continue to increase across the community in Leon County.

So far, the largest effort is the COVID-19 free walk-up testing site organized by the Leon County Health Department and critical community partners.

The department is grateful for the collaboration with Bond Community Health Center, Florida A & M University and the Florida National Guard to expand COVID-19 testing to our vulnerable populations.

More than 7,700 people have been tested since a testing site opened at FAMU’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in late April.

The Florida Department of Health in Leon county is working with community and state partners to intensify efforts to increase access to testing, community outreach, and education.

We are doing this because we know the virus is especially threatening for high risk, vulnerable populations.

Further, we know that testing is one of the most important tools we have to understand COVID-19 in our community and gauge our progress.

Walk-up testing makes it easier for people in hard hit neighborhoods to get a test.

On Friday May 29, 2020, health department staff including our medical director Dr. George Rust and medical students offered COVID-19 testing to residents of the Kenwood Place Senior housing community in Tallahassee.

It was a closed testing collection site, open only to residents of the apartment complex.

It is the first of several planned.

The department will announce other community COVID-19 testing sites both open and closed to the general public as details are finalized.

These tests will help meet the growing need to track the coronavirus in our community and contribute to protecting the health and safety of our neighbors. 

We know that testing is not enough to stop this virus, and that residents must do their part and continue to follow CDC prevention guidelines.

To ensure residents have access to accurate information, staff educators are providing guidance and COVID-19 educational material on how to stay safe and stop the spread of the disease.

Patients First, CVS, Tallahassee Memorial Transition Center, Bond Community Health Center, Capital Health Plan, and the Neighborhood Medical Center.
