FAMU BRAGG Memorial Stadium Testing Site Suspends Accepting Appointments

Tallahassee - The Florida A&M University (FAMU) Bragg Memorial Stadium walk up COVID-19 testing site is suspending accepting new appointments until further notice.

Those with confirmed appointments will be tested. Appointments are scheduled through September 13.

Operators announced the plan to suspend appointments citing the need to avoid the long testing lines in the face of increased demand for testing. The site plans to continue free testing without appointments. No physician referral is required.

“This is to better serve the people who want to get tested,” said Cynthia Harris, Ph.D., director of the FAMU Institute of Public Health and one of the co-founders of the site. “This pandemic challenges us daily to make adjustments. In the coming weeks, we will review these changes to ensure that the community is being adequately served.”

More than 34,000 people have been tested since the site began operation on April 25. The site is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. unless closed due to inclement weather.

The site is operated by way of a partnership that includes FAMU, Bond Community Health Center, the Leon County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Emergency Management.

Claudia Blackburn, Health Officer of the Leon County Health Department, said the Bragg site remains a key component of the local fight against the pandemic.

“We remain committed to bringing testing directly to the people of Leon County, and to make this service available to anyone in the Tallahassee area who needs to be tested,” she said.
