Flu Vaccinations Now Available at the Leon County Health Department

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 6, 2020

SEASONAL FLU VACCINATIONS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE LEON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Due to COVID-19, immunizations are by appointment only.

Tallahassee, Fla. – Seasonal influenza vaccinations are now available for children and qualifying adults at the Roberts & Stevens (R&S) Clinic.  Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone six months of age and older as the best protection against the flu and its complications.

We recommend getting vaccinated now before we reach peak flu activity typically between December and February. Influenza vaccine is especially important for young children, pregnant women, those over 65 and those with underlying health conditions.

The clinic is applying the necessary precautions to protect all staff and clients. These include strict masking requirements, additional disinfecting between vaccinations and other measures to maintain health and safety.

Flu shots are FREE for adults with qualifying insurance and there is no cost for children.

TOTAL COST WITHOUT INSURANCE:

Regular flu vaccine (for ages 6 months and up): $31.15

Senior dose flu vaccine (for individuals 65 years and older): $65.15

Payment options include cash, credit (Visa/Mastercard), Florida Blue, Capital Health Plan, Medicare Part B without supplemental coverage. Bring picture identification and all insurance cards to the clinic.  The Health Department participates in the Vaccines for Children Program which offers vaccines at no cost for eligible children through 18 years old.

For all questions about services and to schedule an appointment for a flu shot call: 850-404-6403.

The R & S clinic is located at 1515 Old Bainbridge Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303.

“It is always important to get your flu vaccination, but as our community continues to fight COVID-19 it is especially important for anyone six months and older,” said Claudia Blackburn, MPH, RN, Health Officer, Leon County Health Department. “In 2019, we lost 2,703 Floridians to influenza and pneumonia. Pneumonia is often a complication from the flu. Compounded with a global pandemic, our bodies and healthcare systems could use all the protection we can possibly get this year.”

While vaccination is the best protection, basic infection control measures can also reduce the spread of the flu and should be taken whether individuals are vaccinated or not. These measures include covering your mouth when coughing and sneezing, staying at home when you or your children are sick and washing your hands frequently.
